Last.fm new interface launches, gets smashed

I really, really like Last.fm new design. It’s so clean and organized for once – using the old interface, I could not really tell what was where and always found myself clicking here and there to get the pages I wanted.

But the current one, ah! So usable, so pretty, so clean, so new.

It has its rough edges (all redesigns have at first) but it’s a nice change for one of my favourite social sites.

And the people who worked on it do not – in any way – deserve the shit they get thrown at since they launched the new design.

Really, people. You, Last.fm users out there. Especially the freebies. What’s wrong with you? What do you think is SO fundamentally wrong with the new design?

Jeez.

See my point now?

I haven’t yet had the chance to fully explore the new site, but from what I’ve seen up to now, I really like! It’s definitely a cleaner look and that for me is a huge plus.

I haven’t used last.fm. I always knew it’s existence but I never got my hands on it.

But from what I can understand from the user comments is that the people want the old layout back because they got used to it. I don’t know if the new layout is a big change from the old one, but a change is always a change and it needs some time to get used to it.

I must admit that i didn’t like the new interface when I got beta access to it. Thankfully they’ve fixed my biggest complaint, the old plain and ugly header.

Aside from that it did make me feel a bit like was on some myspace clone, but they’ve seemingly managed to get rid of that feeling with minor tweaks and enhacements here and there :)

Altho, I’ve so far only used the final design on an iPhone. So I’ll see what I think of it once I get a chance to check it out on a desktop machine… lol

At last! I thought I was the only one who likes the new last.fm design.I couldn’t find anything for the first ten minutes, that’s true, but now I can navigate much more faster!

well, i think it sucks. it looks very very commercial. like it’s the social network of iTunes or something. And as a marketing move, they did it really wrong. they should have done like yahoo! when they launched the beta version of y!mail.,. we should have had an option to try out the beta version and not have it imposed.

it’s a simple marketing rule., for god’s sake! if you shock your consumers, you might as well be prepared to lose some of them.

I’m sure people will cope with that change. Since they’re highly adaptive and such.

People have gotten used to using totally unusable and counter-intuitive stuff for years, and they won’t get used to using a new, cleaner Last.gm? Puhlease.

    @jimeh
Oh you’re just an iPhone showoff :P

What you designers don’t seem to understand is that “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. If a user learns a way to get things done -even if it is hard- then why change?
