Firefox Site Search - Love it or Leave it?
When browsing around for Firefox add-ons (a rarity these days, since I only use Firefox at work), I stumbled upon the mighty search box. A simple search box, you think?
Try clicking on it. Tada! It grows bigger. Clicking out, smaller. Clicking again on it to focus, bigger!
Sexual puns aside, it’s an interesting twist on the well-known motto of mr. Jakob Nielsen: search inputs must be big enough to allow for the search of phrases, not just keywords. This little search box may look small, but with an inevitable click on it, it gets big enough.
I’m not like, ecstatic with it. Don’t know why, but this method just doesn’t cut it with me, feels like cheating. I’d prefer having it bigger by default, it’s not like there’s no room for it in the first place.
Do you dig it?
firefox, search, search box, usability, search usability

Hmmmm I’m not sure, but I think I’ve seen it before.
Maybe at Firefox or IE by default or something like that?
It’s faint but I really think I’ve seen it before

@Nick: Ever since I put that disclaimer over the comment form, most greek readers write in greek anyway! What’s the matter?
I took the liberty of editing your comment and translating it loosely.

You need to change its layout/color or whatever. I have seen your comments about the disclaimer but it is the very first time I notice it (only after looking for it and only after some time).
Come on, is this the best you can do?
PS: You can delete my (previous) comment anyway, I know it from the very same site :$
