Sage
I was looking for this kind of tool for days now.
What is Sage? (apart from a cool name for a Firefox Extension)
Sage is a lightweight RSS and Atom feed reader extension for Mozilla Firefox. It’s got a lot of what you need and not much of what you don’t.
Short feature list :
- Lightweight interface in-Firefox (always a plus), fully customizable with stylesheets (my favourite is Midautumn by Xavier Giro)
- Reads RSS (2.0, 1.0, 0.9x) and Atom feeds, automatic feed discovery
- Integrates with Firefox’s bookmark storage and Live Bookmarks, meaning you can import your bookmarks directly in Sage
- Imports and exports OPML feed lists
- Technorati and RSS search engine integration
- Highly localized
- Easy install / uninstall procedure
In short, it’s the one blog reader you’ll ever need, if you don’t want to be separated by your beloved Firefox. (I know, because I shudder even at the idea)
I admit I didn’t know anything about it until I saw it in my FeedBurner stats, but when I gave it a try, I was left completely satisfied, not to mention that it managed to help me organize my ever-scrambled live bookmarks. Be sure to give it a try, if you’re looking for something similar.
Quick tip #1 : I love the fact that you can open up several articles in one click : just middle-click the title of the article in the article list that resides on the bottom of Sage. Handy!
Quick tip #2 : Be sure to download the relevant images, if you want your selected Sage style to work exactly as displayed.

You should give Bloglines a try, it’s rss reading at its best.

I am a happy Sage user as well. I literally use it so much that it has become just as important to me as the browser itself.
I just noticed however that their logo seems to be quite similar to a few others off the top of my head…
InCase, Mint and hicksdesign
Mind you, that has nothing to do with the quality of their product though.

@ George : I actually did give Bloglines a try.
For some reason still unknown to me, it didn’t work for me. I guess that’s because it wasn’t too lightweight, or because it’s not incorporated in FF, it’s a different website altogether.
Thanks for the tip though.
@ P.J. : You’re right, the Sage logo is pretty generic. Who doesn’t love leaves?
But you’re right, their extension is great, and so simple to use. No fuss. Go Sage!
