LaCie Hard Drive, Design by F.A. Porsche

I got myself a treat: In order to backup my PC and Macbook, I’ve bought an external LaCie hard drive, designed by F.A. Porsche.

I got the USB 2.0, 320Gb version for about 110 euros, not a bad price for Greece.

My New Purchase

In the LaCie website and on its box it looks kinda enormous, but it really isn’t. It’s nice and sleek and small. To be frank, I didn’t really drop dead due to its design, but it’s elegant and subtle enough to be on my desk on all times. I’ve placed it vertically to minimize the space required, and switch it on only when I want to move something to it (mainly because of the noise).

My 100GB PC disk took about 2 days (!) to transfer, but mainly because I haven’t flashed my BIOS to support USB 2.0 (yes, I have an aging PC, but after the format it’s almost blazing fast).

All in all, it’s a nice, sleek gadget, well worth its money.

[...] I haven’t used Time Machine just yet, because my LaCie is full of backups that must be sorted out and deleted. I’m sure it’s pretty much simple, though, simple and powerful. [...]
