Why Greek Sites Suck #3: Tsatsoulis.com

(or Royal-Tsatsoulis.com if that matters, they both point to the same ..erm.. site. Greek pals, don’t laugh!)

OK now folks, time for another WGSS, the first of the year! Isn’t suck exciting? Especially when it’s won a Golden Web Award?

I’ll share a secret with you – yesterday I had a real good laugh when a friend gave me the URL to this site. I was thrilled, really. I’ll explain the reasons.

Have you ever changed the language in a multilingual site by clicking on a pepper? Well now you will (for those still wondering, the only way to access the main site is to click on one of those two sexy peppers which represent greek and english versions):

Greek? Red pepper. English? Yellow pepper. Defies every law.
Greek? Red pepper. English? Yellow pepper. Defies every law.

I’ll skip the fact that the site is completely made in Flash. That it launches a new window to unleash its sexy pepper power. That it uses irritating sound clips to accentuate navigation and to make me go completely nuts listening to them while typing this post in my trusty Backpack whiteboard.

Another case of Mystery Meat Navigation, this pixelated jar and the photo camera are actual links to sections of the site:

Notice the dancing jar and the mystery camera - that’s navigation

The address and contact info are right there in front of your eyes, erm I mean up there, see that little scribbling in 8px font? That cannot be copied or pasted because it’s Flash? That flickers and bounces all the time to make you chase it around the screen? That’s the address info:

The address, in one of the rare moments it actually stays on screen

And in case that this has wet your appetite, lo and behold, you can also play a little mini-game gathering olives and peppers! Isn’t that cute? (it’s another thing spicing up a maintenance page and providing your clients with this kind of …fun):

Gather olives and peppers - in jars. Ain’t it fun?

I wonder, did things suck so much back in 2003-2004? Seriously.

    I liked the peppers-flags though.
It’s sure not fit for a “Golden Web Award” (who gives them anyway) but it doesn’t suck that much. There are numerous worse greek sites you can blog about.

You only need to go the site of the “creators” to understand. Since I opened that link 10 minutes ago it has been “checking for the necessary plugin” and apparently hasn’t found it yet… lol

    Keep on kicking them, Sugarenia!

@menneke: I know, I KNOW. I mean, what’s with the minuscule writing? I squinted and squinted and couldn’t make out their portfolio data.

    Sigh..
