Work & Music

I admit it, I’m not much of an obsessed music listener. I can’t stand listening to music all day long, because (believe it or not) it gives me headaches.

But I can’t stand working without listening to some music in the background. I’m always knee-deep in what I’m working on, but I think the office/my room is eerie and empty when I work in silence.

So step right in to find out about my favourite playlist…

My iTunes playlist nowadays is conquered by people like:

  • Archive – Lights
Archive entered my life a cool autumn night and haven’t left ever since. It’s my new favourite group, their songs are sexy (when applicable), weepy (when applicable), harsh (when applicable) and overall interesting to listen to.

Favourite Songs: Sane, Lights, I will fade.

  • Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Stadium Arcadium
I’m not much of a RHCP fan, but I really like their latest album. It’s full of easy, quick tracks that stick to your head and make you wanna listen to more. I wish I could find a better expression, but what comes in mind when I listen to Stadium Arcadium is “witty”.

Favourite Songs: Snow Hey Oh, Hump De Bump, Cmon Girl.

  • Bob Sinclar – Western Dream
This gentleman has a rare gift: his music never fails to cheer me up and send my stress somewhere in Pluto. Eventhough his music is not what I call “one of my favs”, I like listening to it like a remedy to my ever-present stress. Summer music!

Favourite Songs: World Hold On, Love Generation, Tennessee.

  • Raining Pleasure – all
A greek band? Wow!An actually good greek band? Heaven forbid! If you’re not greek, most probably you’ve never heard of them, but they’re one of the best bands – not to mention really music savvy – currently in Greece. I’ve recently attended one of their live shows, and I left feeling more than excited!

Favourite Songs: Forwards+Backwards, Dancing Queen (an excellent remake), Kemal.

  • Schiller – Tag und Nacht
Schiller got me swinging when he first released “The Dream I Had Of You”. It was one of those songs that stuck in my mind, characterizing a whole part of my life. This year, he released a collection of great songs, many of which went straight into my 5-star favourites.

Favourite Songs: Miles and Miles, I Know, I Saved You.

  • Massive Attack – Collected
What can I say about MA. What can anyone say about MA. One of the most important bands in the history of music, in my opinion. A league of their own.

Favourite Songs: Inertia Creeps, Angel, Danny the Dog.

So what are your “work & music” trends?

If I listen to anything other than ambient/electronic, I get distracted. It’s a weakness and instead of trying to swim upstream, I work with it.

I listen to drum and bass mainly and a lot of bbc 1xtra on demand radio where I listen to the dnb shows and dancehall. Got to admit along with google 1xtra is my most visited site on a day. I listen to a lot of old skool jungle too which always get me moving even on my chair.

What is playing ATM though is the new Lost Prophets album, which I cant stop listening to as I love every single track on it, mixed with my favorite “The Used” tracks. Have gone into an emo mood the last few days.

As for Mr Sinclair along with Hed Kandi and generally funky, sexy house it’s reserved for the weekends from some strange reason. Might have smth to do with the fact that they get me in the mood before clubbing and help me wind down afterwards.

Greek music? heh, only on online radio if I’m feeling homesick. Have totally lost touch with the scene as I’ve been away too long.

@ P.J. It seems that ever designer I know has to listen to ambient when working. Weird!

@ acidsmile: Lost Prophets? The Used? My oh my, aren’t we in a black-y emo mood atm? :P
