I have a guitarist friend that is always name-dropping, and I'd be damned if I know one or two names of those he mentions. As you said, it's a matter of community isolation. Seriously, people salivate over the mere mention of these people. Ironically, if you ask anyone outside of the community who these people are, you'd see a lot of shrugging shoulders. Hell, if you asked them who Paul Rand was, they wouldn't know. It really goes to show you how insular and isolated our community is from the public.
