The Internet doesn’t care about you

Warning: ranting ahead.

Face it people: noone gives a damn for you on the ‘nets.

So don’t go around threatening “you’ll leave”. Don’t be a drama queen and announce your nth Internet exit, hoping for “please don’t go” comments. Because guess what: after some days, noone will remember you.

That’s the sacred and damned way of the Internet: you can’t control it. You can’t keep something alive if you don’t update it, reminding to people that hey, you exist.

Services like Facebook, Twitter, blogs, they’re just that: reminders of your online presence to people. So don’t expect someone will care if you stop updating all of a sudden. Because we’ll just go on.

Threatening, suing, being rude, complaining, ranting, it’s all useless. The show will just go on.

Face it, or do us all a favour and stop messing the web with your obnoxious self.

Showcase: Weinbau-Trummer.at

There are some times that I just ‘click’ with a website. I see it and – voilà! I fall in love with it, instantly.

That’s what happened with Weinbau-Trummer.at. My eyes first stopped on the lovely picture of the vine leaf, maybe because it’s such a familiar image for me that it was strange to see it on web (may I remind you that I live in Crete, Greece).

Then I admired the subtle colour scheme and the pretty logo, that’s unlike all the huge logos we’ve grown accustomed to. I’d prefer the links to have a more greenish colour to better match the leaf photo, but this olive green works nice too.

My only pet peeves are the difference in header typography and the lack of real wine character – I don’t know German, I understood that it’s a site about wine or vineyards but I’m still not sure: is it?
