So… hot…

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007 at 8:26 pm

No, I’m not referring to my hotness, that’s a well known fact.

I’m referring to the absurd heat wave that continues to torment Greece for over a week now - we’re talking 40 Celsius degrees (over 100 Fahrenheit degrees for our weird friends) daily (and nightly).

Our house, not having proper air conditioning (just fans), showered by the sun every day (we’re on first floor) does not cool at all during the night. Everything’s hot in it, beds, furnitures and walls. You cannot live without a fan tied on you and even the bottled water you drink gets hot in a few minutes.

As if the heat was not enough, there are numerous power shortages (that, my friends, means no a/c, and no a/c at work = bad) as well as lack of water (means not as many showers as you’d like - hell, no showers at all).

Now beat that!

Even I, a huge fan of summer and heat, am exhausted and pray for lower temperatures. This is too much.

New Flickr.com homepage

Saturday, June 16th, 2007 at 8:36 pm

It seems that Flickr.com at last lived to its name and decided to change its homepage.

The new starting page sports better visual hierarchy, the well-known (and well-loved) minimal layout and colour theme and a more clever way of presenting its uses.

I mean, if you ever need to be told about Flickr uses…

Take a look and drop a comment.

Trying out Microsoft Live Writer

Thursday, June 14th, 2007 at 11:36 pm

This post is kind of a test, to try out the new (?) Microsoft Live Writer.

I have to admit, it looks really cool and actually useful, eventhough I’ve tried other similar application in the past and I’ve not liked it a bit.

On the positive side of this free app are the fact that you can draftly preview your post, since it auto-detects your theme, you can add maps, tables and formatted images with some clicks and plus, it’s extendable.

Not bad, Microsoft.

Early morning blogging

Saturday, June 9th, 2007 at 9:03 am

Some life updates, for those interested:

  • I’m working on moving my blog over to Pathfinder Blogs sometime soon. You should have seen it coming so far. Wordpress is fine and dandy, but nothing beats people making/tweaking stuff for me on my will. I hope. Eh Mark?
  • I’ve started driving lessons to get my much anticipated (by all) driving license. So avoid going around at streets in afternoons, between 19:00 and 20:00. Danger lurking.
  • Life (and by life I mean work) is now busier than ever. Cool things coming up though, so check back for updates.
  • The new raging virus called GBC07 memorabilitis still hasn’t left me (and others, I think). 2 days on a beautiful island with some good fellow bloggers / web professionals was too good to be true. Check out the posts, the photos, the videos.

GBC - it’s over

Monday, June 4th, 2007 at 12:15 am

GreekBloggerCamp is over - now when’s the next one?

I had tons of fun with everyone I met there, nice and smart people all of them. Kudos to mr. Stefanos Kofopoulos (aka Titanas, aka the Mastermind) that organized this all, it was brilliant.

It was nice chatting with so-called VIPs of this field (namely Steve Smith and Matt Mullenweg), but then again, their attitude was not VIPish at all. Smart and friendly guys, both, they were eager to sacrifice their time in sunny Ios to talk with us and answer our questions.

The keynotes were great and I loved the fact that there was almost everything: from the impact of blogging in advertising campaigns and politics to web standards and Drupal and the almighty Pathfinder Blogs that just got out of beta.

I regret having to leave so early, wanted to stay for one more day, but things were already decided so.. :)

I have uploaded about 70 photos in Flickr, didn’t have the time to add titles and descriptions to all, but I will tomorrow. Check them out and add your own, tagging them with “gbc07” to make them easier to find.
