Commentful vs. coComment

Sunday, July 9th, 2006 at 4:14 pm

CommentfulDo you know Commentful? It’s a relatively new service that promises to take the special place in your heart that is currently occupied by coComment. Or simpler, to replace coComment in your everyday blogroll reading. It worked for me!

Commentful is a service that watches comments/follow-ups on Blog posts, Digg submissions, Flickr pictures, and many other types of content. When ever there is an update, such as a new follow-up or comment, Commentful notifies you instantly.

You should really check it out, it’s very easy to use, it features a handy bookmarklet and it helps organize your online conversations immensely.

Five reasons why it took my special coComment place:

  1. You can specify a time window during which you want to watch a particular item for follow-up comments. At the end of this, Commentful automagically deletes outdated items from your list.
  2. Editing and deleting your watchlist items is a matter of seconds, due to AJAX.
  3. The blink button. OMG, you haven’t seen the blink button? It sits right beside your address bar and blinks when a new comment has been added to your watchlist. Blink!
  4. “Mark all as read” functionality. No more blinking!
  5. It’s a really, really simple service to use. Lightweight and simple, that’s what it takes to get into my daily routine.

On the other hand, it doesn’t provide all the things that coComment gives, like tags, tag clouds, nested comments view etc. But if you can live without it, Commentful is a more than adequate alternative to the popular coComment.

Update Time

Sunday, July 9th, 2006 at 2:19 pm

My blog will be wacky for - let’s say - half an hour, due to (I hear you sigh with relief) Wordpress update.

Keep posted, maybe I’ll get through this unharmed.

All is good in Sugarland, after the update. Now to familiarize myself with the new admin panel…
